The benefits of networking go beyond just getting a job.
It is an opportunity to gather information about your industry. It is especially useful if a large event has recently occurred in the industry – when like-minded thought leaders share valuable insight to shape your thinking and to understand the potential repercussions in the relevant industry.
Learning how thought leaders in your industry have overcome challenges is of enormous value. It may also be useful to understand the attempts they have made; which have failed. This presents an opportunity to benefit from someone else’s experience and journey.

However, networking is also about the opportunity to share with others without expecting anything in return. Choose to care for the people you are connecting to.
The art of developing professional and/or social contacts in your industry is a skill
Good networkers can build bridges and join disparate networks by introducing their contacts to each other and growing the connections and opportunities.
Use 30 minutes a day to build your online presence by:
- Sharing at least one relevant 3rd party article on social networks
- Comment on one blog post
- Follow at least 2 people
- Respond to social mentors and questions
In summary: create the best content you can, collaborate, share and learn to communicate efficiently, online and offline. Everyone has something to say – make sure that your words count.
