“The key to crafting the life you want is letting go of what you don’t need” is a quote that resonates with me.
To kick off our 2023, my husband and I spent a few extra days at home decluttering our living space, including our “Harry Potter rooms”*. This experience was made even better by the fact that my husband joined in and helped with the organisation.????
A few years back, I took on a challenge where I had to get rid of 27 items every day for 9 consecutive days. This exercise showed me how much clutter and waste we had accumulated in our home. From expired tins, dry whiteboard markers, sentimental items from our kids, and spare buttons from clothes we no longer wear — it was eye-opening to see the impact of living with less.
The moral: Our homes reflect our energy fields, and rearranging furniture, organising cupboards, or getting rid of clutter has a profound impact on our minds, bodies, and spirits!
Do you tend to hold onto things, or are you quick to let go of what no longer serves you?
Personally, I have a sentimental side and find it challenging to part with items that hold special meaning.
For example, the kid’s chefs’ hat and apron from one of their birthday parties; a goody bag I got on my trip to Europe with my daughter, the jean short I’ve purchase for a road trip.
To overcome this, I reconnect with the memory and emotions attached to the item. I even take a photo to preserve the memory and save it on my phone. For less sentimental items, I ask myself, “Does this object align with the life I am creating?”
You will be amazed at how much “lighter” you feel – emotionally and physically – once you have gone through such a journey.
And I highly recommend doing this every few months!
*”Harry Potter room” is a term used for the cupboard or space in your house where everything that doesn’t have a designated place is stored. Similar to that chair in your room????
